Perine is an alkaloid naturally occuring in black pepper (piper nigrum) and long pepper (piper longum).
Piperine is primarily a bioavailability enhancer as it increases the absorption of a number of supplement nutrients from the intestine, including Vit C, Selenium, Beta-carotene, Vit A, Vit B6 and Coenzyme Q10.
It’s been suggested that Piperine may also possess anti-angiogenic activities, meaning it inhibits the growth of blood vessels. As an Angiogenesis inhibitor, it may help in the treatment of cancer, macular degeneration and other conditions that involve the multiplying of blood vessels.
Some studies have shown that Piperine may help reduce certain inflammatory responses caused by faulty immune responses as in the case of gout and arthritis.
Piperine is being researched for its antidepressant effects and cognitive enhancing benefits.
How it works
It is believed that by enhancing the body’s natural process of thermogenesis (heat creation), Piperine increases the metabolic process in the body and therefore the need for certain nutrients as well as stimulating their transportation into the blood.
