INFORMATION ON SPIRULINA

Spirulina is a non-toxic cyanobacterium (bacteria that obtain their energy from photosynthesis) and is a rich source of protein. Spirulina is also commonly called a 'blue-green' algae.

Studies proved that spirulina can improve fat and sugar metabolism, as well as reduce liver fat and protect the heart. It is able to significantly reduce triglycerides in sufferers of metabolic syndrome, diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia.

Some evidence indicated that spirulina demonstrates the same potency in treating neurological disorders, as commonly used reference dugs.

As an antioxidant, spirulina produces a notable decrease in lipid peroxidation, as well as aid in natural cleansing of the body, and detoxification with reference to heavy metals.

Spirulina also seems to have a positive effect on muscular endurance and acute muscle power output.

Research has shown that cancerous oral lesions, were very effectively treated by Spirulina. It also seems to increase natural killer cell activity where tumors are present, as well as benefitting general immunity and controlling rhinitis related allergies.

Spirulina is potent source of complete protein, up to 70% by weight, contains 18 amino acids and helps to maintain tissues, sustain growth and produce hormones in the body.

How it works:

Spirulina works at different sites in our body, synergistically to enhance antioxidant protection.

Cyanobacteria is biosorbent of heavy minerals, because of ion-exchange binding, and in its neuro-protective function,  Spirulina appears to be an NADPH complex inhibitor.

Spirulina has good bile acid binding properties and seems to reduce cholesterol solubility in certain lipid molecules. In reducing blood pressure, Spirulina possess anti-hypertensive peptides, in the protein fragment that inhibit the ACE enzyme.

In glucose metabolism, Spirulina acts as an NAPDH oxidase complex inhibitor, where NAPDH oxidase mediates lipotoxicity of the pancreatic cells that secrete insulin.

Mechanisms related to the immune system, are due to Spirulina compounds acting as ions or neutral molecules, that bond to immune cell receptors and activate these cells.
