INFORMATION ON TAURINE

Taurine is an amino sulphonic acid, a byproduct of the amino acids Cysteine and Methionine, naturally produced in the body. It is abundantly present in the skeletal and heart muscles, white blood cells and central nervous system.

It is an important component of bile and helps the digestion of fats and absorption of vitamins, and has many  biological and physiological roles, such as antioxidation, osmoregulation, membrane stabilisation and calcium homeostasis.

Clinically Taurine has been used in the treatment of cardiovascular disease, epilepsy, Alzheimer's disease, hepatic disorders and cystic fibrosis.

It is essential for the development and function of skeletal muscle, the retina and the central nervous system. By interacting with GABA receptors in the brain, Taurine is known to have an anxiolytic effect on the brain, inhibiting anxiety and stress, lowering cortisol levels and enhancing mood.

Taurine helps to control glucose levels, and is being heavily researched for its ability to reduce insulin resistance and protection against diabetis.

Additionally, supplementation with Taurine has been shown to prevent oxidative stress induced by exercise, and it has been used to burn fat, decrease weight and maintain a health body.

How it works:

Taurine is synthesized from the essential amino acid Methionine, and its related non-essential amino acid, Cysteine.

It is freely found in high concentrations in cardiac and skeletal muscle, and although considered an amino acid, it doesn't participate in protein synthesis.

It is synthesized in the liver and then incorporated in bile acids, providing a substrate for the formation of bile salts.

It plays a key role in many biological processes such as detoxification and regulation of nerve cell activity, acting as a lipid stabilizer and antioxidant.
