INFORMATION ON L-ARGININE AKG

L-arginine alpha-ketoglutarate or AAKG is a salt of the amino acid, Arginine bonded with Alpha-ketoglutaric acid. Alpha-ketoglutaric acid is an intermediate in the Krebs energy cycle and amino acid metabolism.

The Krebs cycle involves the breakdown of stored glucose to produce ATP, a high energy molecule providing the cells with fuel, thus playing a major role in providing energy. Arginine, the only precursor of nitric oxide (NO), plays a pivotal role in the urea cycle, helping the body to get rid of excess ammonia and is also important in protein synthesis and healthy immune function.

It is claimed that due to its role in creatine and glutamine production, AAKG improves athletic performance, endurance ,helps to build muscle and aids recovery.

Evidence suggests that L-arginine may be beneficial for overall cardiovascular maintenance and sexual function as well as other areas that depend largely on healthy circulatory status.

AAKG is also used for kidney disease, intestinal and stomach disorders and infections.

How it works:

As a cell volumiser AAKG will stimulate NO (nitric oxide) production and improve blood flow, thus increasing vital nutrients such as oxygen, amino acids and glucose to the working muscles.

This has been shown to increase muscular endurance, protein synthesis, increased levels of anabolic hormones (insulin, human growth hormone, glucagon and prolactin) and enhanced immune function.
